March 2006

Dear CSN Community Member:

Cancer is no laughing matter. Or is it? Many of our members have taken comfort in their humor to get through tough times. Our CSN home page features stories about how humor and light-heartedness have helped members overcome the roughest experiences and heal their wounded spirits. Like CSN member Peg57 says: "It is impossible to laugh at yourself and feel sorry for yourself at the same time." Visit the CSN home page to read these stories.

You may or may have not noticed that our newsletter's monthly focus has shifted from specific cancer types. In response to members with less common cancers who were feeling a bit left out, we are now highlighting broader, cross-cutting topics that are relevant to most of us.

Our Members

Need some "tumor humor?" Laughter has -- without a doubt -- been a big part of nodawgs' and jbb's cancer experience. Their humor and personal choices helped them get through their cancer journey. On this page, you will also find a review of Fran Drescher's Cancer Schmancer, contributed by groundeffect.

In addition, our colorectal cancer survivors (the self-proclaimed "Semi-Colons") are planning the next Colon Palooza. Care to join? Check out Our Members page for more information.

Expressions

This month our Expressions page shows an original poem contributed by Maz334 dedicated to her chat room friends. Also, the Worth a Thousand Words section has a picture of a very peculiar license plate that you won't want to miss. Our Celebrations section has this month's celebratory messages, while the Remembering section has a few memorial tributes. Visit the Expressions page.

Resources

Need ideas on how to break the ice with your chemo nurse? A few pick-up lines for cancer patients? Our Resources page might provide you with just what you need! Check out the different links to funny contributions from cancer.org, CSN, and Planet Cancer (a community of young adults with cancer at www.planetcancer.org).

The Resources page also contains information about ACS books and events, clinical trials, how to find treatment centers, and a free treatment decision tool. Visit our Resources page.
