     Relay For Life®  Volunteers:

Take Action Now To Tell Them "NO!"
Funding cancer research is one of the most promising ways we can help save lives faster. This year, Relay For Life events raised more than $351 million to fund prevention, early detection, treatment, and research programs. Congress also has a role in funding research.

But Congress is proposing a cut to cancer research funding that could be as much as $100 million. This proposal is unacceptable, yet it is being taken seriously by Congressional leadership. It must be stopped right now!

You have two opportunities to take action:

It takes less than five minutes.

As our lawmakers make decisions about the federal budget and struggle to allocate dollars to our nation’s many priorities, they need to hear from us. Some in Congress say we can’t afford to spend more on cancer research. We say we can’t afford not to.

This week, representatives from the American Cancer Society are joining with 40 other cancer organizations to meet with members of Congress to urge them to oppose these drastic cuts to research funding. They need your help to make sure their message is heard loud and clear. Please call or email your Representatives right away.

A 100 million dollar cut to cancer research funding will have devastating effects on the future of cancer care.

It could mean delays in:
  • new cancer drugs
  • new cancer screenings
  • lifesaving cancer treatments.
We cannot let this happen.  You cannot let this happen.

Take a moment to either call your US Representative using our toll-free hotline at 1-888-NOW-I-CAN or email your lawmaker.

Your member of Congress needs to hear from you! The impact of your message will be felt by millions of people touched by cancer across the country and around the world.

Just last month, 92 US Senators and 275 US Representatives signed a letter indicating their support of the Bush Administration’s goal to reduce cancer suffering and death by 2015.

Now they want to cut cancer research funding? That would not only contradict their previous commitment but is simply bad policy that will have a serious negative effect on the health and wellbeing of our nation.

We must educate these Congressional leaders now before their proposal gains too much momentum. Click on the link below to send an email or call 1-888-NOW-I-CAN to insist that your member of Congress oppose cuts to cancer research funding. Show Congress that Relay For Life volunteers won’t stand for these cuts!

Email your Member of Congress or call their office at 1-888-NOW-I-CAN!
